Satellite Internet service offers fast, reliable, high-speed Internet access to residents of rural areas where DSL (direct subscriber line) or cable Internet service is not available. It’s available to anyone in the United States who has a clear view of the southern sky.

Genius !! Both guys here…
haha, never saw that one, brilliant!
you bullying me….
wireless is not really an option here.
just get home hi speed service and buy a wireless router for yourself (instead of renting one for 2 bucks each month)
I don't think cricket service would allow for a comfortable internet connection that you're used to.
as far as providers go? it all depends on whats happening in your area.
I suggest cable over DSL though
there are many different providers in many different areas, you would have to be much more specific (location wise) so an accurate answer could be given. Here is a list of the most common:

Yes you have to subscribe to a service that has coverage in the area you want to use the laptop. Check with providers like http://www.Clearwire.com or Verizon Wireless or SprintPCS. All provide that wireless service.
Once you subscribe, the service provider can instruct you on how to use their service.
Also, if you are in an area with wifi hot spots, you could use those for internet service as well. Most likely it will be places like coffee shops, or bread stores (Like Panera). Of course, you would be limited to their operating hours.
Good luck!
actually even indians born in uk have a cetain accent when speaking english, you can tell just from listening to them that they’re indian even if they speak fluent english.
fact.
I think I know exactly what you want and it can be at a low price too.
I suggest looking into getting DSL with what is called a "naked loop" (or dry loop). Read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_DSL
I should mention I wouldn't advise anyone to cancel their regular land line until you are confident you want to use a Magic Jack instead. It's best to give it a couple of months to be sure that is what you want.
Getting back to naked loop DSL, find out if this is available from a local phone company or not. Based on where you are, it should be. Not all of the telco sales people will know that is a service they even offer! You may have to ask to speak to a supervisor. Obviously, they want to provide you with their own much higher priced long distance. If you have a Magic Jack and it works well, you can use that instead and/or change it so you only get local area phone service from them.
To learn more about the Magic Jack, check out the below web site.

There's LOTS of good info there if you take the time to check it out. You can now find a valid discount coupon (promo) codes to save 10% ($4.00 Off!), check area codes available or preview the install process.
Good Luck!
This is very expensive. Verizon, Cingular and Sprint offer these PC cards. They will cost $50 with a 2-year agreement. If you want to do it without a contract, then it will be $200 for the PC Card. As for the plans, for unlimited data, it is about $80 – $100. I don't think the limited data is worth it, unless you do not plan to use it much.
In addition, recently in press release, Cingular is getting UMTS (3.5G technology) set-up by January 2007. You will be able to get 3.5Mbps speed from GTOption's PC Card.
Unfortunately your only independent options are satellite or cellular subscriptions. These are both far slower and more expensive than the joint cost of a phone and internet subscription.
Nuke em I say
I think that linksys is the best wireless internet. I have linksys and its wonderful!
Call you internet server provider, there maybe a device that you can plug into you laptop, but more then likely that will be an extra fee added to what you already pay now.
Yeah lol
“The customer is not right,
He is talking bloody bollocks”
Classic!
wouldn’t u kill all the non pakis too?? since we are talking about ones born in UK, guess thats y ur not priminister
err no
at the core of the internet are what are known as "tier 1" providers. among these are ISPs such as verizon, level 3 and uunet. these companies, along with academic institutions, governmental bodies and others all own and/or manage portions of what is known as the internet "backbone", which consists of the highest-speed connections between locations such as cities and universities.
access is distributed out from these entities. for instance, charter communications (an american residential and business ISP) will lease bandwidth and IP addresses from verizon, and resell it to people like you and me. it's a little more complex than that in many cases, but that's the idea.
btw, you don't "use a server to get an ISP." the internet (the traffic portion, anyway) is powered by routers and switches, not servers.
